Cold Rain
Cold rain falls.
Upon the earth
Upon this temple
Upon my heart
Wash dust from the earth
Stale tears from my cheeks
And the lie from my thoughts
Trickle deep to my roots
To the heart of my soul
To the seeds hidden there
So ripen each furrow.
Down there in the dark
Where eyes do not go
Rejoice in this failing light
These frigid months
The bitter winds
Spring hastens, my dear
The love-light is kindled
Only conceived in these moments
When cold rain falls.
