Our sacred stories are written and rewritten to suit the social mores of our time. They are taken from places and times of origin. Meaning is scaffolded upon meaning. Yet the lands and animals carry no agenda beyond the moment.
I constructed this nativity for a designer friend, Pamela Butler Stone’s, home this Christmas. Human figures are folded from plane washi paper, animals from colored art paper. The tree and pencils were readymade and the deer moss locally harvested.
